We had to think a lot about which doggie door to get. At the time we weren’t doing dog boarding so the considerations of other dogs weren’t the factor, though it turned out we made the right choice.
WiFi Power Pet Door
We chose the High Tech Pet WiFi Power Pet Door. After buying and installing it, we found out that Julies mother has the non-WiFi version.
Interesting fact, did you know WiFi doesn’t really stand for anything. Turns out, the techs that invented it just thought it sounded cool. They derived it from HiFi of course, which means “High Fidelity”. But WiFi is not “Wireless Fidelity”, it’s just WiFi. A marketing firm was quick to jump on the bandwagon and named themselves “Wireless Fidelity Alliance”, further cementing the WiFi/Wireless Fidelity association.
Reasons for our choice
We picked the High Tech Pet doggie door is for a few reasons:
- Anyone whos had a squirrel get in their home know how much damage they can do. Just imagine a racoon or a opossum. There are a lot of other animal that want to rummage through your house. In tropical areas imagine have to worry about “iguanas”. Yes, an electronic dog door is a must. The High Tech Pet doggie door opens only when it sees the collar.
- The door open so the dog doesn’t have to push anything. Some dogs will test to see if a flap will move, but others get scared and won’t go threw. With a hard flap door, once a dog has his head threw the flap, if he’s startled and tries to back out the flap pins against the back of his neck. The High Tech Pet doggie door closes by gravity. So at most your dog will feel the weight of a sheet of Laxan on his back, and as soon as the door senses that he’s still in the door, it rises back up.
- The wifi control is perfect for us. It allows you to set timers and entry/exit senerios. Lets say you’re at work and going to late coming home. You can set the doggie door so your puppy can go out. So you look on your camera and see that out doing his thing, so now you set the door to let him in, but not out again. So once he’s finished and comes in for water, he’s in till you get home. You can set timers so that it let him go in and out till 5PM then it only lets him come in.
